Tennessee Redistricting and Why Civic Engagement Still Matters

By Dr. Reginald F. Smith II

At the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, we believe informed communities are empowered communities. That is why we created these infographics for focused on Tennessee redistricting, voting power, and civic engagement.

These infographics were designed to help break down a complicated issue into something clear, understandable, and actionable for everyday people. Too often, conversations about congressional maps, voting districts, and representation happen in political circles while communities most impacted are left out of the discussion. We believe people deserve to know what is happening, why it matters, and what they can do about it.

As an organization rooted in the legacy of civil rights and economic empowerment, the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga remains committed to:

  • Civic education

  • Voter engagement

  • Leadership development

  • Community empowerment

  • Protecting equitable access to opportunity

This work isn’t about partisan politics. It’s about awareness, participation, and ensuring communities understand how decisions made at every level of government impact daily life.

We encourage churches, community organizations, educators, neighborhood leaders, young professionals, and families to use these materials as conversation starters. Share them. Discuss them. Ask questions. Get involved.

Our future depends on informed and engaged communities.
