The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) performs a valuable service to our community. Low and moderate-income filers can have their taxes prepared free by IRS certified volunteers. VITA volunteers also help filers apply for and receive federal tax credits. During the 2010 tax season, Chattanooga’s VITA program completed 3,663 returns in Hamilton and BradleyCounties representing annual returns of approximately $4,013,336 in federal tax dollars to the local economy.
VITA volunteers receive 3 days of training and become certified by the IRS. Volunteers can feel good about serving the community and gain a valuable skill. Anyone interested in volunteering for the VITA program should call 756-1762 and ask for Donna Thomas (ext 19).
